Mushrooms growing in our farm

Grown from Passion, Grown with Care

I'm Joshua Tudor — trained as a zoologist and marine biologist, with a lifelong parallel passion for horticulture. Mushrooms sit right at that intersection: extraordinary organisms, deeply connected to ecosystems, and tremendously rewarding to grow well.

Tudor Mushrooms started as a hobby. I wanted to understand how each variety grew, what conditions it thrived in, and what made the flavour of each one so distinct. That curiosity deepened and grew — and, gradually and naturally, became a business.

Based in Oldham, I now grow ten gourmet varieties in carefully controlled growing rooms, bringing fresh and dried mushrooms to Todmorden and Hebden Bridge markets every weekend. Everything is grown on natural substrate — without pesticides or synthetic chemicals — harvested by hand, and reaches the market as fresh as it is possible to be.

Our Approach

🌿

Natural Growing

Grown on natural substrate with no pesticides — ever — and no synthetic fertilisers. The way mushrooms are meant to be grown.

Hand Harvested

Each mushroom is carefully harvested by hand at precisely the right moment for peak flavour and texture.

🕐

Always Fresh

We harvest immediately before market day. What you buy from us was growing hours ago — not days or weeks ago.

🏘️

Locally Grown

Grown right here in Oldham, sold at local West Yorkshire markets. Supporting our community and reducing food miles.

Ten Varieties, Rooted in Curiosity

Every variety we grow is chosen for a reason — flavour, texture, character, or sheer scientific fascination. From the otherworldly Lion's Mane to the bold, smoky Pink Oyster, each one reflects the same curiosity that started this whole thing: a zoologist's eye for biology, a horticulturalist's feel for growing, and a genuine love of good food.

Volunteering at
Northern Roots

Northern Roots is a 160-acre community urban farm right here in Oldham — a social enterprise transforming neglected land into a space where people connect around food, growing, nature, and learning.

Joshua volunteers with Northern Roots as part of his commitment to community growing. And once Northern Roots opens its markets in summer 2026, the aim is to bring fresh gourmet mushrooms directly to them — putting additional locally grown produce at the heart of the community where it all began.
